5A13. No acrobatics on the part of the riders shall be required to overcome obstacles.

I saw this as I was perusing the latest USAC rule book. Should I interpret that as no bunny hopping? Or does it mean I can bunny hop but I can't table top over the barrier.

I also saw that upgrading from a CAT 4 to CAT 3 was to be done after 5 races in a 12 month period regardless of finishing placement but I think we all know the guy that has been racing CAT 4 since the stone age. ;)

Requirements for upgrading via points: 4-3: Experience in 5 qualifying races or 7 points in 12 months 3-2: 10 points in 12 months (two wins is an automatic upgrade if the field had at least 11 competitors) 2-1: 20 points in 12 months (two wins is an automatic upgrade if the field had at least 40 competitors)

Sandbaggers, you have been informed. :)
Maybe USAC could do auto upgrades if all promoters would be diligent in submitting race records?
I'm interested in how the 4->3 on experience is interpreted. Are people reading it as 5 starts = must upgrade or 5 starts = can upgrade? I got my 5 starts last year, but only one top 5 finish, so I've got 4 points towards upgrading.

The big question I'm asking myself now is do I start this season as a 4 and try to upgrade on points in the first race or two, or just take the experience upgrade and race as a 3 all season. The "I want podium finishes" part of me says 4 but well, avoiding excessive sandbagging and all that.
acrobatics - meaning no ditches to toss the bike over and then jump across.. stone walls that are 4' tall and all that...

that 5A13 has been in there for ages IIRC... basically to prevent stuff being any bigger than the horse jump at Sterling... (or anything like the old vintage cross photos depicting)...
USAC? Do they got by the UCI rule book? I'm brain farting here, I know I am.
"No acrobatics on the part of the riders shall be required to overcome obstacles."
is quite different from
No acrobatics on the part of the riders shall be allowed when overcoming obstacles.

Table top to your heart's desire.
Ah ha! You're a genius with the legalese. I might brake out my old rat trap pedals and vans for this season.
hey regarding the upgrades, have some info that if you're planning on going to nats upgrading could be useful. more to come in the next week.

cinci - doesn't hurt to try to podium if you count that as top 3. sandbagging sucks but racing for the win is totally different than racing for xx place for most folks. now if you got 13 second places, I'd say that's a different story (and unlucky).
ones and twos only this year?
